文章分析了赵彦春的现代诗《文字古今》在措辞、形式、音韵和意象四个层面所采用的陌生化手法,并基于关联顺应译观探讨了侯国金的译诗在相应层面所采用的陌生化手法。研究发现:1)在措辞陌生化方面,原诗使用顶真的修辞手法加上四字短语;译诗除了精心选词以外,还通过词汇重复、增译和归化策略来减少受众推理解读时的难度。2)在形式陌生化方面,原诗分成篇幅差异较大的两部分;译诗遵循英文篇章句法特点,通过改变篇章句型来顺应目标受众的阅读习惯。3)在音韵陌生化方面,原诗采用首尾押同韵的方式陌生化用韵;译诗主要通过英文单词的发音、复韵和中间韵来再现原诗的韵味。4)在意象陌生化方面,原诗融合动作意象和情景意象;译诗通过增译和合译的方式具象化原诗的意象,既关联中国文字的传承方式,又顺应受众的认知期待。译诗在以上四个层面所采用的陌生化手法对现代汉语诗歌外译具有一定的参考价值。
Abstract:
Under the guidance of relevance-adaptation theory, this paper analyzes the estrangement of diction, structure, rhymes and images of “History of Writings and Characters”, a modern poem written by Zhao Yanchun and its translation by Hou Guojin. It is meant to find out Hou’s estrangement at the aforementioned levels. Findings are as follows: 1) In terms of the diction estrangement, anadiplosis, as well as four-character phrases, is employed in the original poem. Besides selecting some words, the translator also uses vocabulary repetition, amplification, and domestication to reduce the target readers’ inference and interpretation efforts. 2) In terms of the structure estrangement, the original poem is divided into two parts. Following the syntactic characteristics of the English text, the translator changes the sentence structure of the text, according to the reading habits of the target readers. 3) In terms of the rhymes’ estrangement, the poet defamiliarizes the rhyme by using the same rhyme at the beginning and the end line. The translator mainly employs word pronunciation and assonance to translate the rhyme of the original poem. 4) In terms of the images’ estrangement, the poet combines action imagery and situational imagery. The translator visualizes the imagery of the original poem by amplification and combined translation, which is related to the inheritance of Chinese characters and Chinese culture, for the readers’ easier cognition. In short, Hou’s translation method of estrangement at the four above-mentioned levels sheds some light on the translation of other modern Chinese poetry.
