作为语用学的一个新兴研究领域,变异语用学的研究议题主要集中于请求、感谢、建议等言语行为层面,对抱怨言语行为的关注相对不足。鉴于此,本研究采用定量与定性相结合的研究方法,从句法形式与实施策略维度对比分析英美亚马逊商品评论中的抱怨言语行为,旨在揭示网络交际中英美抱怨言语行为的异同。分析发现,就句法形式而言,英美消费者使用频率最高的都是陈述句,而美国消费者除采用陈述句外,对感叹句和祈使句的使用频率也较高。就实施策略而言,英美消费者使用频率最高的都是明确抱怨策略,不同之处在于:英国消费者还主要使用暗示性指责及表达不满或不认可两种策略;而美国消费者则采用表达不满或不认可与谴责和警告两种策略。这说明英国消费者更倾向于间接抱怨,而美国消费者更倾向于直接抱怨。总之,美国消费者抱怨言语行为的严厉程度高于英国消费者。
Abstract:
As a new research domain, variational pragmatics mainly concerns studies on such speech acts as requests, thanks, suggestions, etc., with a dearth of research on complaining. In view of this, the present paper examines how native English speakers in Britain and America perform complaining in online product comments in Amazon. Results indicate: in terms of syntactic forms, both British and American customers tend to use declarative sentences; in addition, American customers also use exclamatory and imperative sentences in higher frequencies; in terms of complaint strategies, both British and American customers tend to use the explicit complaint strategy; in addition, British customers use the strategies of hinting and expressing annoyance or disapproval more frequently, while American customers incline to use the strategies of expressing annoyance or disapproval together with accusation and warning. This indicates that British customers tend to complain indirectly, whereas those in America more directly. In general, American customers complain more harshly than their British counterparts.
